The start of Mack’s Fire Company is a story rooted in service, family, and community, and it all started with John Caputo, a firefighter with over 36 years of dedication to the Farmingville Fire Department on Long Island.

John joined the fire department on July 25, 1988, at just 23 years old. His commitment to the fire service goes far beyond the local firehouse. John is a Ground Zero 9/11 first responder who worked 33 consecutive hours on the pile. He still remembers seeing brave firefighters from as far as Philadelphia coming to help. His devotion to the cause is unwavering. He served as Fire Commissioner for 15 years, took a short five-year hiatus, and was re-elected on December 10, 2024.

John’s vision in creating Mack’s Fire Company was to share his experience in firefighting and the importance of fire safety education in an entertaining way. Named after his spirited Dalmatian, Mack, the business blends real-life fire education with fun experiences that kids and adults alike rave about.

John and Mack are a dynamic duo. Together, they’ve visited schools, celebrated birthdays, and brought fun to many events, such as the Ronkonkoma St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Mack isn’t just a mascot—he’s part of the family, with a playful personality and a knack for brightening everyone’s day.
